Abstract

Semarang Regency is experiencing dynamic urban development as an impact of regional economic growth and its position in the Kedungsepur metropolitan agglomeration. This spatial dynamic requires continuous monitoring to understand its growth patterns. This study aims to analyze the morphology of urban development in Semarang Regency by utilizing Nighttime Light (NTL) remote sensing data from the VIIRS sensor for two periods: 2014 and 2024. The clockboard zones method was applied to analyze spatial patterns of light intensity distribution, identifying multi-centric development tendencies and urban sprawl phenomena with a total light intensity increase 86,13%. The results indicate that urban development in Semarang Regency does not converge toward a single center but is distributed along transportation corridors and secondary activity nodes, particularly in Ring 2 and Ring 3 zones. These findings offer strategic insights for spatial planning, regional development policy, and infrastructure provision.
